My name is Mark Michaud and
I am a graphic designer.
It's as simple as that, I am a graphic designer and that is what I want to do. I love the challenges and diversities each new project brings. At any one moment I can be working on a newsletter, website, logo, poster, brochure, display or anything that needs a message communicated. It doesn't matter to me what the medium is, what I thrive on is making sure the end user understands the message.
I currently work with Xactly Design as a graphic designer in Ottawa. Before Xactly, I was with Edmonton Transit as part of their in-house graphic design team, where I worked on a wide variety of projects, from logo design to covering an LRT station in an advertising campaign.
Before that I was with Redengine, and there I worked primarily on corporate identities and websites. The one thing I appreciate the most about both of these places is the chance to work with others from a wide variety of disciplines, other designers, engineers, writers, photographers, CEO's etc. and getting all of their perspectives on the design process.
Outside of my work life I have kept busy with freelance design work and also sitting on the board of two organizations. The Livia Stoyke Foundation was started after the untimely passing of a friend, but from this a charity was started to help women and children in need, fostering the arts, alleviating poverty and protecting the environment. One of my bigger roles on the board was the creation and jurying of an annual award we would give out to University of Alberta Fine Arts and Design students.
The other board, Team Edmonton, has been a great way to get involved within the community of Edmonton. Through organizing volunteers and helping out with various sporting groups I have learned the great benefits of working with teams.
